End of November hedgerow

I have been looking at the beautiful autumn we have had here. I live surrounded by fields and farmland, and hedgerows. They are full of character. Both the above pieces are mixed media on watercolour paper.

Flower power

I just love this photo by Amy Merrick. It reminds me of the Cottage Garden at Sissinghurst Castle Gardens. I live close by and visit often. It is a magical setting with a suitably eccentric, quirky, aristocratic English history behind it.

Monday morning

Thanks to everyone who came to my and Sam Williams art sale last Friday and Saturday. It was a lovely two days, really enjoyable and busy. The painting below had the most positive feedback....it is titled 'Rainy Afternoon'. maybe more people like rain than I thought!

Moving foward, I am working on this piece this morning, working title 'Rainy Summer Afternoon'. More layers required. Actually it is bright and beautiful at the moment, a light frost and blue skies.

Monday 5 November 2012

Molygrove, Wales

After a visit to Wales the other weekend, I made this painting. We stayed in a beautiful house with a sea view, and tiny bay just a few moments walk away. Molygrove is a hamlet, the house we stayed just outside. The weather was alternatively wet and bright, gorgeous for the landscape fan!
This painting is 90x90cm

Abstracted landscape

I love fully abstracted paintings, and often work on paintings like this whilst completing more figuative work. I get lots of inspiration from the colours and shapes in both types of work, they really bounce off each other. This is 60x60cm

In celebration of rain

Moving on.....here is an update on this painting. In celebration of rain, well actually a rain shower. Not the relentless stuff we get here sometimes.

Memories of a rainy summer afternoon

I am obsessing over rain at the moment, I do live in a land of pretty consistent drizzle. I actually like it, but don't like to mention that too loudly...I'm definitely in the minority! The above is a work in progress, lots of soft blues and greens.

Rainy day painting in situ

In situ, in my kitchen!

Architects Gallery, Teddington

I will once again have some artwork at the Architects Gallery early next spring.....watch this space!
Do you like the pinkish/greenish hue of this small painting? I have been looking at it in my studio for a day or so now. So far the title Rainy Day has come into my head.

Big painting continues.....

I'm finding it tough to get a good shot of this painting, I have even reverted to taking a picture in my kitchen, that's why it is a little bit dark.

I have been working on this painting for a while now.....this is it's last photo

Thursday 27 September 2012

Lovely colours!

I don't know who to acknowledge for this beautiful picture...I love the colours, watch my next painting!!

Working.....

Eddying

This is a portrait to the landscape painting below, Watery Conversations. It's leaf falling time here, and the patterns and shapes from that are always so lovely.

Walk to Camber Sands

I have been busy in the last few weeks, and am busy photographing work today.
This painting is Walk to Camber Sands, which is our local beach. It is backed by sand dunes covered in heavy coarse grasses...the sort you can play hide and seek in. Any walk to the beach involves a pathway through the grasses, and a natural frame for the sea.

Finishing touches

Plum Painting. 30x30cm. Acrylic on Canvas

Six paintings in one!!

I have extended this commission from three to six panels. They fit in between beautiful wooden beams on this staircase....

Now we have another three panels to place underneath. Until they are hung it is hard to photograph them!

Autumn exhibitions

We are heading into autumn with a vengeance here in Kent. the temperature has dropped, and rain is falling not too gently on the window-pane next to my desk.

Summer Field. 30x30cm. Acrylic on Canvas

I am involved in several projects in the next couple of months. Firstly the Hospice on the Weald Contemporary Art Sale, see here. This should be a really fun couple of days, I am looking foward to attending.

After Monet. detail. Acrylic on Canvas

Secondly I will have some artwork at the Hampshire Art Fair, which is near Andover on November 8th-14th.

Pinks III. 50x50cm. Acrylic on Canvas

Lastly I am having a solo show in December at the Blue Moon Gallery in Tunbridge Wells.....very exciting!!

Friday 21 September 2012

I can't get away from water and reflections in my paintings! This smallish painting is working alongside my large one, see below......
