New paintbrushes

A fabulous day in my studio today, working on several things. I have bought some new paintbrushes. I am a bit lazy when it comes to paintbrush welfare. New brushes are great. And this time I will take care of them.....I really will....
Below is the start of a tiny painting, 30x30cm

Sold! At the South East Open Studios

Orchard Last September
mixed media on watercolour paper
unframed size 57x75cm

I enjoy making these more figurative works on paper, this is a fairly typical size for me, and the orchard is on the lane I live in. About a week after I finished it I notice it had been grubbed up and is now replaced with new trees.....I loved these stately ones!

Inspiration Kurt Jackson

Ever since I discovered the work of Cornish artist Kurt Jackson I have been a huge fan. His depiction of the beautiful natural world is at once figurative and extremely bold and free in terms of mark making. Most of his paintings, drawings and etchings are inspired by his home county, he has also made wonderful trips down some of England's iconic rivers...my favourite being the paintings he made on his journey down the River Thames.

You can visit his website here: http://kurtjackson.com/index.html

Everything is so green in the landscape here, I went for a cycle yesterday, and green, white and yellow dominated. Must be something to do with the rain....

Inspiration: Tekla McInerney's monotypes

I have discovered the work of intriguing US artist Tekla Mcinerney, she produces a variety of work, books, embroidered pieces and monotype prints.

Here are two of Tekla's monotypes. See more of her work here

These are wonderful prints, as the name suggests each print is individual. take a look here to find out more about the actual process. I can't wait to try them again myself, there is something very magical about printmaking, peeling back the paper to discover your creation can be immensely satisfying...or frustrating!!
