Beach picture
Been working on this painting for a couple of days....it's quite large, 65x120cm, and I am using acrylic paints. I really like the proportion of the canvas. Making my colour palette smaller is interesting.

Working again
I have been busy showing my paintings and finishing things off in the last week. Now I am ready to start working again. I show at the Pond Gallery in Clapham and am working on a couple of largish paintings on canvas for them. Beautiful, beautiful weather today, bright and clear with autumn leaves littering the ground.....

Back to last Monday
Late afternoon in Abermawr, all my paints and oil pastels, charcoal and papers are out. Sun is shining.
Thursday 8th Oct
Spent the whole day in Porthgain. Small natural harbour with everything! A pub, art gallery, history and selection of boats and crafts.
Wednesday 7th Oct
Strumble Head in the morning, the lighthouse is a magnet for walkers. I started working in splendid solitude around 8.45am. By the time I had finished a couple of small sketches, the place was crowded with dog walkers, ramblers, and those who sit in cars reading newspapers enjoying the view.
Tuesday 6th Oct
So rainy! Spent the afternoon in Fishguard, there are two harbours there. I hung around the commercial harbour, watching the ferry for Ireland.
Monday 5th Oct
All these small works on paper are around Abereiddy, a tiny bay with a beautiful coast path walk running through it. An old brickworks still makes its presence felt.
Four days in Pembrokeshire
I have just spent four days in Pembrokeshire, Wales. I was lucky to have (mostly) excellent weather, and I spent time drawing and painting the fields, footpaths and coastline around St Davids. Fabulous experience, I enjoyed every moment.

A day sketching
Generating ideas for large scale paintings. These three are all small, one is worked on from a couple of days ago.I like the tops of hills (quite a few round here)
A finished painting
Deciding when a painting is finished is something I can find quite tricky. Too much work on a painting like this one deadens it. This painting has been current for a month or two, now I think I will stop working on it.
It's untitled, and The Art Group have selected it as a possible publishing project.

A mess, but I like it.
This is just a sketch of a painting.
Both these paintings are sitting in my studio with layers of paint drying, being scraped off and re-applied. A very absorbing process.
Sunny Tuesday
Beautiful day here, bright, sunny, leaves fluttering. In fact a perfect September day.
This painting is smallish for me, 50x50cm. I want to convey that sky! It's so large and light today. Variety and contrast of mark making is something that facinates me. Anyway, let's see where this painting takes me.

Small painting
Currently working on some small landscape paintings on canvas, this marks a change for me as I have been using mixed media on watercolour paper. The painting above is 'Gorse', 30x30cm ,acrylic and oil. Terrible sky!! Lacking depth and definition.

More work from my studio
Another painting in a tentative state. This is 80x80cm. Something's got to happen to save this poor painting from blandness.
One day later
I've been working on painting from yesterday.Just dived into it, now I need to think what to do next...

Work in progress
Based on my sketchbook, photos and memories, I am working on several paintings of Pembrokeshire. This painting is in progress, it is 80x80cm, acrylic on canvas.I have called it 'Land and the Sea', there are many places on the footpaths north of St Davids where the land is farmed right up to the edge of the cliff.
Abermawr Beach
We cannot be the only family to love this beach. It is quiet, beautiful, geologically interesting, and with great waves for surfing and bodyboarding! Both these sketches were made on the footpath overlooking the beach.
'Abermawr From The Footpath' Mixed media on watercolour paper
'Evening Sea' Mixed media on watercolour paper

Sketchbook
Three sketches from the summer, these are plein air - worked in situ in Pembrokeshire, a part of the world I love and visit often. They are all on watercolour paper, using oil pastel, acylic, and charcoal. The weather was quite rainy as you may be able to tell.

Rainy May days
I am planning to do some work from Sandhurst church (in Kent) this morning.....trouble is the rain!
Very lucky to sell two out of the three paintings I had put foward at The Kent and Sussex Art fair last week, I also have a couple of commissions to work on. Maybe I'll stick to the studio instead and forget about the weather.
